Award-winning horticulturist, author and freelance garden writer Barbara Segall talks about the inspiration for her book Secret Gardens of East Anglia and some of the 22 delightful gardens in this part of England: some little known, sheltered behind walls and hedges, others with ‘secret’ places only revealed once you walk through them.

Barbara Segall is a writer and editor on gardens, plants and gardeners. She edited the magazine Herbs for ten years (2008–2018) for the Herb Society, and currently edits The Horticulturist for the Chartered Institute of Horticulture, of which she is a Fellow. Her column ‘Growbag’ was published in The Times weekend section for several years and she has contributed to gardening sections of consumer magazines, including Amateur Gardening, The English Garden and Hortus. She is an Assistant County Organiser for the National Gardens Scheme in Suffolk, and published Secret Gardens of East Anglia by Frances Lincoln publishers in 2017. Her most recent book is Secret Gardens of the South East ( gardens of Surrey, Sussex and Kent),  published by Frances Lincoln in 2022. In 2023 she received the Garden Media Guild Outstanding Contribution Award.
