18th November – 10 00 am – 5 00pm, Banbury Museum, Spice Ball Park Rd., Banbury OX16 2PG
OGT, in conjunction with Warwickshire GT, has been fortunate enough to obtain one of the three grants, awarded to The Gardens Trust (GT) by the Worshipful Company of Gardeners and from the Finnis Scott Foundation, to run workshops using source materials and site survey in order to understand historic designed landscape development.
The content will be suitable for absolute beginners and will include:
ï learning to locate and use primary and secondary source materials (e.g., books, online resources, maps, images, archived records, aerial photography, lidar) to understand the creation and evolution of the historic designed landscape.
ï walking and recording the landscape, comparing existing features to historical records.
ï Using what has been learned on the day to piece together the landscape’s history, creating a timeline and a basic research report.
ï Learning about the fuller history of the site, using prior research by the local CGT.
We are looking for people who are new to research who may or may not be members of OGT or the GT. The day workshop will be in Banbury – at the Museum – and we will use People’s Park as our study site.
If there is something particular that would interest you, please do get in touch and tell us. We are looking for some forward commitment to take on our research, focusing on a selection of local sites and with a view to reforming a small research team.
