The Gardens Trust
This month, our online talks programme kicks off again after its summer break. We have two new series to enjoy:
Accessing the Archives – William Andrews Nesfield, presented in partnership with the Garden Museum, celebrates the Museum’s acquisition of the archives of this eminent 19th century landscape designer. Four talks, rich with archive material, will explore some of Nesfield’s most important commissions across the country. The series will conclude with a roundtable discussion reconsidering his importance and relevance today. Five Tuesday mornings from 16 September.
Yorkshire’s Designed Landscapes – A Miscellany, presented in partnership with Yorkshire Gardens Trust, explores a variety of less common types of designed landscapes across the county, examining nursery plantations, town memorials, an artificial hill and a Picturesque valley as seen by authors and artists. Four Wednesday evenings from 17 September.
Throughout September we’re also offering a rerun of our introductory History of Gardens (3) series on 18th-century gardens. Described by an audience member as ‘well prepared excellent lectures with a wealth of illustrations’ when the series first ran a year ago, access to all five recordings is available until the end of the month. The talks are a useful introduction to the themes and ideas explored in our new series Building the 18th Century Garden, which starts in October.
In-Person in October
Join us for a special London lecture on Botanical Prints in the Royal Collection. Kate Heard, Senior Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Royal Collection Trust, will explore the Royal Collection’s remarkable group of flower drawings, spanning the sixteenth to twentieth centuries. Highlights include works by Leonardo da Vinci, Alexander Marshal, and Maria Sibylla Merian. Tuesday evening 28 October. This talk also serves as a perfect introduction to our members-only November visit to Windsor Castle’s Print Room.
